Define the current learning process
Learner issue, for example :
- level of computer literacy
- logistics of web access and speed of connectivety
Think about :
- What's not deliverable on-line (not everthing necessarily is - or at least it may not be the most appropriate format)
- maintaining a balance between course structure, learner needs, on-line and F2F elements.
2. The Design Stage
Be clear about what you want to provide. E-Learning course can be:
- web enabled, web focussed or web driven
Ensure aims, outcomes and objectives are:
- clear, realistic, achieveable and measureable
- used to direct and structure course activities
- work in both F2F and on-line modes
Course structure and navigation should be:
- clear consistent and intuitive
- take into account technical limitations
- comply with the KISS principle of design (keep it simple, stupid)
Accessibility issues :
- know your learners
- know the issues ( eg Disabiilty Discrimination Act, SENDA provisions)
3. The Development Stage
Identify:
- appropriate VLE tool
- resources for incorporation
Content
- use materials in existing format or redesign ?
- time/effort investment required to create good web-based content
- think small manageable chunks
- follow logical learning process
- consider using template driven format
4. The Implementation Stage
Ensure that :
- learning supported
- resources used matched
- accessibility issues addressed
Check
- different browsers
- on and off campus
Talk
- to learners and record their response
5. The Evaluation stage
Review and evaluate each phase
- analysis, design, development and implementation
- do they achieve initial intention
Aims, objectives and outcomes
- consistent, clear achievable and measureable ?
On-line component
-support/enhance or replicate classroom experience ?
Is it apparent :
- why resources have been added ?
- how they should be used ?
How can course be improved
