Inasmuch as it is known to all and sundry that I lack the wherewithal to feed and clothe myself, I have asked of your pity, and your goodwill has granted to me, permission to deliver and commend myself into your mundoburdus (one of the terms by which commendation was known); This I have therefore done, in such a fashion that, you have undertaken to aid and sustain me in food and clothing, while I have undertaken to serve you and deserve well of you so far as lies in my power. And for as long as I shall live, I am bound to serve you and respect you as a free man ought, and during my lifetime I shall not have the right to withdraw myself from your authority and mundoburdus;

Le 7 des ides d’avril, un jeudi, des hommages furent de nouveau rendus au comte. En premier lieu, ils firent les hommages de la façon suivante. Le comte demanda [au futur vassal] s’il voulait devenir son homme sans réserve, et celui-ci répondit: «Je le veux»; Puis, ses mains étant jointes dans celles du comte, qui les étreignit, ils s’allièrent par un baiser. En second lien, celui qui avait fait hommage engagea sa foi en ces termes: «Je promets en ma foi d’être fidèle, à partir de cet instant, au comte Guillaume et de lui garder contre tous et entièrement mon hommage, de bonne foi et sans tromperie». En troisième lieu, il jura cela sur les reliques des saints. Ensuite, avec la verge qu’il tenait à la main, le comte leur donna les investitures à eux tous qui, par ce pacte, lui avaient promis sûreté, fait hommage et en même temps prêté serment.
